На самом деле, не так много книг на эту тему выходит за рубежом. В последние год - два плохих мне как то не попадалось. Можно смело переводить на русский язык все, которые выходили под маркой Майкрософт-Пресс. Что же касается ширпотреба, то скоро эта лавочка кончится. Число локализаций на разные языки с каждым годом растёт и наш язык не из последних в этом списке;) В следующем году выйдет множество книг, ориентированных на SQL Server 2005. Многие из них уже в наборе и готовят их довольно квалифицированные люди.

Майкрософт уделяет этому теперь очень большое внимание, привлекая не только известных в этой области специалистов, но и MVP. Нужно сказать, что большое значение придаётся именно качеству предлагаемых к изданию материалов, для чего существует целая программа рецензирования и разного рода проверок контента. В скором будущем мы можем надеятся не только на обилее документации, но и на то, что она будет с минимальным количеством ошибок и неточностей. A First Look at SQL Server for Developers is a good way to get started. I found it worthwhile even without trying out most of the features of SQL Server 2005 in the beta. But don't dally, the book is quickly becoming obsolete as new betas change some of the details of SQL Server 2005's implementation. The book covers almost everything a developer needs to understand in SQL Server 2005 with several notable exceptions:. Reporting Services. Analysis Services.

DTS All of them are really developer topics but they didn’t seem to make the cut. Also omitted are features primarily used by the DBA, such as changes in replication and in the SQL Server tools.

The authors devote a moderate amount of attention to some changes in T-SQL but the bulk of the book is devoted to the topics of most interest to developers such programming of stored procedures and user-defined functions with the.Net CLR and changes in ADO.Net 2.0. There’s plenty of space devoted to XML as well.

After that there are chapters devoted to ObjectSpaces, the new Service Broker, and to Notification Services. All the CLR examples are in C# but that won’t bother most VB.Net programmers. The language doesn’t matter much. The examples are kept purposely very simple so that space can be devoted to isolating exactly what’s different between SQL Server 2005 and earlier versions and showing just what the SQL Server features are without going into any details about programming in.Net languages.

For those not familiar with.Net there’s an appendix that gives a short summary. The team that did the proofreading didn’t pay enough attention to detail. There are numerous typos and small errors in the book. They don’t really detract from it’s purpose but I found them annoying.

There's an appropriate amount of attention devoted to 'best practices'. I say appropriate because the authors gave their ideas about what constituted a best practice but didn't go overboard with it. After all, SQL Server 2005 presents the developer with many alternate ways to architect a database driven application. There's are going to be many good ways to implement the database access that depend on the specifics of the situation. Would I buy this book? Yes, but quickly.

It was written in the winter of 2004 and it’s aging quickly. Many of them end up designing databases as well. Why is it, then, that so many of those databases are designed in a slipshod fashion? As far as I can tell, it's because developers think that there's nothing in particular to learn. Once they understand how to build a table and a SQL statement, and perhaps a foreign key, they think they've got it down. Of course, anyone who's come at the field from the other direction - from being a DBA - knows that it's not that simple. There's an entire science of database design, and it's not trivial.

You can spend a good long time puzzling your way through textbooks, replete with mathematical notation, before you really grasp the theory that underlies good relational database design. This book strikes a neat middle course between the two extremes. Rebecca Riordan tackles the entire field of database application design, from the basic relational model to building an effective user interface for a datacentric application, and she does it with style. The writing is rigorous where rigor is needed (for example, in the discussion of normal forms right up through fifth normal form, which many books dismiss with a bit of hand-waving), but accessible throughout. If you're willing to pay attention, you can go from knowing nothing serious about database design to knowing a great deal by the time you finish the book.

The topics range quite widely. In addition to basic relational database theory, she also covers dimensional database theory (as used in OLAP databases, a design process that starts from system goals and proceeds through a conceptual model to a schema and prototyping, and user interface design. Examples are written using the Microsoft tool set (variously SQL Server, Access, and VB.NET), but they're just that - examples. The book is much heavier on general advice and guidance than it is on code, and that's the way it should be. My bookshelves include a core set of software design books that I'd like to think any future employee of mine would have read.

I think this one is going in that section; it's a great look at the subject, and will make a profitable reference for many developers. Настроить параметры драйвера Пример для Firebird ODBC Пример для InterBase DataDirect ODBC Разумеется, если Firebird или InterBase (как сервер) установлены у вас на компьютере, вы можете указывать параметр 'База данных' как c: dir data.gdb или localhost:c: dir data.gdb Указание localhost: избавит вас от проблем, если вы запутались с клиентскими библиотеками Firebird и InterBase (и получили ошибку ). Если на локальной машине Firebird или InterBase нет, то вместо localhost вы указываете имя сервера. Нажмите на кнопку 'Проверка соединения'.

Если все указано правильно, драйвер сообщит, что соединение прошло успешно. В списке System DSN появится алиас EMPLOYEE. Помните, что в цепочке приложение-драйвер-клиент все должно быть одной разрядности. Например, 32-разрядный Excel не будет работать с 64разрядным ODBC, а 32разрядный ODBC не будет работать с 64-разрядным клиентом Firebird или InterBase. Запустите Excel. Выберите меню Данные, Импорт внешних данных, Создать запрос. Выберите алиас EMPLOYEE.

Теперь можно выбрать таблицы и их столбцы, входящие в запрос. Можно особо не мучиться, выбрать один столбец любой таблицы и пару раз нажать Next. На третий раз появится диалог: Легче построить запрос в Microsoft Query, чем заполнять столбцы в самом первом диалоге Мастера запросов. Здесь уже намного легче выбрать столбцы, добавить условия, добавить таблицы, определить между ними связи, или вообще ввести готовый оператор SQL вручную. После проверки запроса необходимо обязательно сохранить запрос (кнопка с изображением дискеты). Запрос будет сохранен вместе со всеми параметрами алиаса, поэтому для 'распространения' запроса на несколько компьютеров вовсе необязательно создавать алиас ODBC на каждом (конечно, ODBC-драйвер и клиентскую часть IB/FB все равно придется устанавливать на этих компьютерах). По умолчанию Microsoft Query сохраняет запросы в каталог C: Documents and Settings Administrator Application Data Microsoft Запросы в виде текстового файла с расширением qry (вместо Administrator в пути может быть имя пользователя данного компьютера).

После формирования запроса (и его сохранения) нужно нажать на кнопку с изображением двери И после нажатия OK мы получим данные в таблице Excel: Для изменения запроса можно вернуться в меню Данные, Импорт внешних данных, Изменить запрос. Предупреждающее сообщение про Мастер запросов можно игнорировать – откроется Microsoft Query, в котором можно будет визуально изменить исходный запрос. Надо заметить, что сделать вид данных ближе к пользователю можно (похоже что) только в третьем диалекте, например, заменив имя столбцов LastName и FirstName на имена в двойных кавычках – 'Фамилия' и 'Имя'.
